2021 has been unique in my career as a driving instructor. We were not allowed to start working until 12th April due to Covid 19 I had a fabulous start that week with 4 first time passes in one week. I maintained a good pass rate throughout the year with a total of 24 passes in 8 months. My overall performance has worked out to be 78% first time pass rate and 86% first or second time pass. With my final 2 passes coming on the 30th and 31st of December and both being first time passes. I also had a check test this year resulting in my best ever score of 48/50, allowing me to continue on the ADI register until my level of performance falls below an overall pass rate of 55% with an average of 5 driver errors per test in a one year period. This is a new standard set by the DVSA which seems to lay the fault for driving test failure at the feet of the instructor. 
This of course puts pressure on all instructors to raise their game but will also make them less willing to risk booking a test for a pupil that they do not know well.
Looking forward to the New Year and January 1st when a new regulation comes in allowing pedestrians priority even when a car is turning from a main road onto a minor one. This will be a very difficult situation for examiners mark consistently and as we approach the New Year they have not been given any guidance from the DVSA, leaving them unable to give us guidance as to how we coach for this.
